The Municipality of Sapian, also known as Banwa sang Sapian, is a 4th class municipality in the province of Capiz, Philippines. It has a population of 26,697 people as per the 2020 census. The municipality is located 27 km away from the provincial capital, Roxas City.
Sapian Bay is situated in the northern part of the municipality and is connected to Capiz Bay. This shallow sea bay covers an area of 30 km2 and is comprised of intertidal mudflats, sandy beaches, mangrove swamps, estuaries of several small rivers, and coastal lagoons and marshes. Sapian Bay opens up to the Sibuyan Sea and serves as a source of livelihood for many locals, who depend on the harvest of marine products such as green mussels, oysters, lobsters, different species of fish, and clams. Additionally, many lands near the sea have been developed into fishponds that produce milkfish, prawns, and crabs.
Another way people earn a living in Sapian is through agriculture. Rice fields, trees, and flowers are abundant throughout the municipality, especially along the national road that links Roxas City to Iloilo and Aklan. However, as housing developments expand, the rice fields along the national road are gradually being replaced. The primary crops grown in Sapian are rice and coconuts.
